Giving back

Every home we sell helps keep a door open for someone who needs it.

A portion of every Owning Halifax sale goes to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. Don has also trekked twice for the foundation's Challenge for Shelter, raising money for women's shelters here at home.

Why the Shelter Foundation

The only real estate company in Canada with its own charitable foundation.

Since 1998 the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has grown into the largest public foundation in Canada dedicated exclusively to funding women's shelters and domestic-violence prevention. It has raised more than $57 million and currently supports 200 local shelters and national partners.

Royal LePage agents donate a portion of their commissions and offices host local fundraisers. Every dollar raised goes directly to the more than 50,000 women and children served each year by the shelters and programs the foundation funds.

How we give

Three ways the money gets there.

01

A portion of every sale

When you buy or sell with Owning Halifax, part of our commission goes to the Shelter Foundation. It costs you nothing extra and it happens on every closing.

02

Trekking for shelter

Don has twice joined Royal LePage's Challenge for Shelter: six days through the Purcell Mountains in 2021 and five days across Cambodia in 2025. Trekkers pay their own way, so every dollar sponsors give goes to the foundation.

03

Showing up all year

Office fundraisers, client events and personal giving. Don is a Top 1% donor to the foundation and was named its East Coast Individual of the Year in 2021.

October 2025 · Phnom Kulen National Park

Cambodia Challenge for Shelter

Five days on foot through the jungle and temple country of Phnom Kulen with 117 Royal LePage agents from across Canada. Together the group raised about $1.6 million for the foundation.

August 2021 · Golden, British Columbia

Purcell Mountains Challenge for Shelter

Six days through a remote stretch of the Purcells, each trekker carrying their own camping gear through wind, rain, snow and wildfire smoke. Sixty-six Royal LePagers finished the route and raised more than $750,000.
